Text Box: Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers
is a recreational trail advocacy group based in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley region of Alaska. We are dedicated to increasing the quality and quantity of sustainable trails for hikers and mountain bikers throughout the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.

Our goals are: Build new and better trails for mountain biking and hiking. Advocate for trails that provide opportunities for mountain biking, hiking and other self-propelled trail activities.

Have fun and organize events and outings for mountain bikers and hikers

Trail care work days are scheduled during the spring, summer and fall.  Dates and times vary. Check the VMBaH message phone at 746-6010 for the latest information  - or join VMBaH and receive weekly trail news.

Trail Assessments, is one of VMBaH’s newest and most ambitious projects, arose from concerns regarding the amount of damage occurring due to increased use of trails and the limited funding for management and upkeep of trails. Assessment data, collected by volunteers, will provide information that will help justify funding for trail repairs, trail re-routing and increased management.  Volunteers can use the following links to download all forms needed for assessment work.

Field Trail Assessment Form (129KB);  Submittal Trail Assessment Form (155KB);  Readme Form (17KB);

VMBAH Trail Assessment Guide v2.8 (1.7MB); ChangesToVer2.7Guide.pdf (190KB); Optional Photo Log.xls (130KB).

Trail hikes, mountain bike rides, and other outings are scheduled throughout the year.  Check the VMBaH calendar or call our office/message phone at 746-6010 for the most current information on our hikes, rides and other outings.

We also sponsor events, such as our annual spring gear swap and mountain bike fest.

Trail advocacy is a big part of our organization.  We are a voice for “self-propelled” trail users.  We advocate for sustainable trails, specifically those that meet the needs of hikers and mountain bikers. Check out the Trail Advocacy page for the latest information of endangered trails.
